Food Drive: 6th graders are sponsoring our annual food drive from Dec. 5th to 14th. Our goal is to fill the red trailer again. Last year we donated 900 pounds of food. This year our goal is 1,000 pounds.

Students can drop of food in the morning before school at the trailer or the bus loop. 6th grade students will be at both locations to collect food. Students can also bring food items to their classroom and we will collect items between 11:30-12:00. If you don’t want interruptions, please place food outside of the classroom in hallway.

I am looking for boxes and grocery bags. If you have any you want to donate, I would appreciate it. We need to bag and box up the food before delivering it to the food bank.

Also, the trailer will not be delivered to our school until Monday night. (Sorry, little bump in my plans.) So we will only collect food on Monday from classrooms. Please explain this to your students. Thanks so much for all your help. Let me know if you have any questions.

Space Above Cupboards: Please note that the space above the cupboards is not intended to be used as a storage space or to be used for decoration. In the past the fire marshal has pointed out that the space should be clear so many inches from the ceiling but also that smaller objects/heavier objects should not be placed there in case of an earthquake. Rather than worry about how far from the ceiling an item is or how heavy it is, we will simply keep the area above the cupboards clear. Please take care of this between now and when we return from Winter break.

Fire Drill: Although we have a fire drill scheduled for this Thursday know that we may change it to another day depending upon the weather. Again, great job at the last one with student behavior and overall time!

Lost & Found: Our Lost & Found clothes racks are full of unclaimed coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and hats. In your classroom newsletters, please encourage parents have their children visit our Lost and Found rack to retrieve their belongings. They are also welcome to come to school to pick up their child’s lost items. Items that are not picked up by December 16th will be packed up and donated to a local charity the at the end of the day.

Amber Petersen- Wow! Our students have really been working hard at Carson. Many students met their AR goal for the 1st trimester and have already started working on earning AR points for the next report card period. The library has added over 200 new titles of great books as well as over 300 new test titles. We also recently received a generous grant from Walmart that was used to purchase many of our new books and AR quizzes.

Our students have been asking how they can take AR quizzes for books they’ve read at home. It is very simple. All they have to do is stop by the library and fill out a form with the title of book, their name and the name of the author. I will look it up to make sure there is an AR quiz for that title. With a $4.00 donation, I will be able to purchase an AR quiz for them to take. If they don’t have a form they can put the information on a sheet of paper. Families have been informed about this procedure in this week’s December parent newsletter, on Carson’s website. Thank you for passing the word on to your students.

Time for Giving: Our "Carson Cares" Giving tags are up in the main office. We are sponsoring 9 Carson families this year, and would love for you to consider choosing a tag that you could shop for. Please return the unwrapped gift along with the tag to the office by December 14. This is such an important project for our school. We are also encouraging our families to participate in this project. Thank you for your generous contributions! -Erynn Acree
