Finishing Strong-Andrea
That being said, I would like us to continue to increase our efforts to encourage the academic and behavioral success of our students. We can achieve this by being proactive in rehearsing school and classroom rules and expectations with them. (Example: Rehearse rules related to playground, lunchroom and hallway behavior; rules about dismissal and line-up procedures; rules about bullying as well as being respectful and using safe walking routes to and from school.) It's a perfect time as we come back from a break and with nicer weather. Revisit your classroom rules, incentives and consequences. Other ideas may include having your students set an individual and class goal to reach.
Technically, spring is here and we are in the third and final trimester of the 2011-2012 school year. History tells us that during this time of the school year students may become restless, distracted and pay less attention to learning and following directions. How much of this happens depends greatly on school expectations.
Remember, you have power and influence to make a difference in the lives of your students each day. Don’t miss the opportunity to intercept the future and help your students make the touchdown! What else can be done to encourage your students to practice good study habits, turn in class work, participate in class and even get a good nights rest? Are there any other changes that you could make in your routines that might help your students build the stamina they will need during this last trimester to finish strong?

School Board Recognizes Maddie Names: This Monday, Mrs. Maddie Names will be recognized at our school board meeting as our Volunteer of the Year. Everyone is invited to attend to show their support. The recognition occurs at the start of the board meeting, so there is no obligation to sit through the whole meeting.
LIC Calendar: This Wednesday is a Principal Directed Day. However, if you attended the Native American Symposium at Ballou on March 7th, then you need not attend and you may choose to do other things or head out for the afternoon. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to see either Andrea or Arturo.
Fire Dept. & Staff Parking: The fire department has sent the district a letter concerned about traffic at Carson. This includes parking. Knowing that every little bit makes a difference, this is a perfect time to review our staff parking procedures: staff is to use the staff parking area. If the staff lot is full or staff wish to park in the main lot, then please park on the lower half of the parking lot; closer to the entrance driveway-the obvious exception is for those staff accessing handicap parking. This gives visitors and parents coming to the office a closer parking spot throughout the day as they don't try to park in the red zone in front of the school (which is a concern expressed by the fire department). On a good note, thank you for your use of the staff parking lot, more often than not it is consistently full and utilized to it's potential. Keep it up! We will have a number of visits by district facilities and the fire department in April; we'll provide updates on this as they come. If you have questions, please see Arturo or Andrea.
Janice Heigl: We lost the opportunity to have Janice here in March due to illness. We're working to have her come in April or May as a follow up. Knowing that her visit is a gift to us (she's not charging us!) this may require some flexibility since she is working us into her already full schedule. We will certainly let you know of dates and times as they are verified.
Dan Vesey Art Show: A flyer was sent out to Carson Mailing list indicating deadlines and format requirements for the Dan Vesey Art Show.
