New Face in Fifth Grade: Welcome Marlo Harmsen as our long term sub at fifth grade.
Report Card Timeline Adjustment: The report card window has been extended by two days to accommodate for the two days lost over the last weekend. As a result, the report cards will be sent home on Thursday, December 4th. Know that Miles and I are continuing to receive report cards starting this Friday, Nov. 21st. Please be sure to include this adjusted timeline in your own newsletter, SWIFT account, etc.
Wednesday LIC: Although it is officially an Evaluation and Conferencing day, this day was our trade day for those teachers who participated in the evening conferences.
Creative Writing for 21st Century Kids: A parent wanted to share with teachers about a website where students can write and share stories as well as have them purchased as books. This isn't a fundraiser or anything that we are doing as a school, but I did want to pass on the information: http://www.tikatok.com/
Giving Tree: If you're doing the day after thanksgiving shopping you might want to consider picking something from the Giving Tree. Knowing that things are getting financially tighter for our families, this year our focus will be on essentials (clothing, hygiene, etc.) rather than gift toys. We will be forward names for entertainment gifts to other district/community resources.
Wednesday CNN: We will have a special broadcast this Wednesday for CNN. Rumor has it that there is an interest for some of our staff to do guest appearances on CNN. If you're interested please let Miles know!
From the Office: Because of district policy, letters for an unexcused absence are printed the next day. I hold the letter an extra day knowing that a note or phone call might come in to excuse their absence; if a note, phone call or message is not received then the letter is mailed. The second unexcused absence requests a conference with the principal. The third unexcused letter is generated and the fifth sends the parents a letter plus BECCA information.
The parents, are frustrated because in between letters I am calling home and cell phone numbers trying to clear these unexcused absences. As you can imagine, they are not always nice when I get them on the phone and they have already sent notes to the teacher to excuse the absence and I have not received them. FYI Tardy letters are not held, and they go out for excused and unexcused. If there are special circumstances for tardies please let me know.
Thanks for your help.

Olweus Weekly Topic: Did you talk with an adult at school or a friend about being bullied? Did it help? If not, what would have helped?
Food Service Delivers! We had a visit from the health department while the cafeteria was in full swing...and the kitchen staff delivered a 100% pass on the health inspection!

Greetings from Puyallup Gift Makers!
In support of our Puyallup Gift Makers program, the amazing Carson staff has been asked to donate sport toys that will be collected and wrapped for families in need this holiday season.
The window for donating is short, but the need is high. A Gift Makers representative will be on site December 1st to collect the toys and bring them to the main gift wrapping event so they can be made available for needy Puyallup families.
We have two shopping weekends until that date so I am hoping that as we invade the stores over the next week and a half, you might consider purchasing a fun sports toy gift and bringing it by my office. I will collect them together for submitting on December 1st.
Items such as nerf toys, footballs, basketballs, baseballs, packaged racket games, etc. are all excellent contributions and will be greatly appreciated by families in our community.

Thanks in advance for your ongoing giving spirit. I look forward to seeing our donation pile grow in my office between now and December 1st!
YOUR EFFORTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
