WATCH D.O.G.S.-Our Watchdog event went great this last Tuesday. Thank you to John for taking a leadership role in this event and for Mark's participation and commitment to be actively involved; he is our building contact for orientations. We had about 350 dads and kids turn out. About 60 of them have already signed up. Please take a look at the Watchdog Calendar so see if you have dads signed up already. (It is posted on the wall outside the Commons.) Some points to remember: the calendar is for the year and will be up all year, the dads will sign up on their own so please take a look at it on an ongoing basis (they may or may not let the office know that they have signed up), a trial schedule was created that will be in your boxes on Monday. Please take a look at it as a grade level and give a revised copy to the office so that we can have them printed out and ready for future dads.
Weekly Teaming Meetings: Miles and I would like to join you next week. We would like to cover three items that will take a total of 10 minutes: 1) report card timelines and formats for this trimester, and 2) building art projects/culminating celebrations and activities and how they coincide with traditional holidays, and extended learning opportunities for our students (we're looking for what you would like to see happen).
Student Plus Building Contact: My understanding is that we will continue to have a building rep who will work with the student plus program/implementation this year. This is a district level committee that will include additional time and a willingness to provide some staff development to Carson staff as well as be available as a resource/troubleshooter in the building. There is a district stipend associated with this position. If you are interested in being considered for this position please let Arturo or Miles know by Wednesday.
Carson is Going Green: If you are interested in working toward making Carson a green school please let Sarah Simon know. We will start by working to get some school wide recommendations to parents on having a waste free lunch program. For more info take a look at www.wastefreelunches.org/ or http://earth911.org/blog/2007/09/26/todays-lunch-special/
Carson is Getting Wireless: The second floor is now wireless and the first floor will be anytime soon. This means that you will be able to use your laptop wirelessly. However, keep in mind that they are getting the system up and running. In addition, a key component, referred to as the brain, will be added later this fall that will take our system to a whole new level.
3 in 1 Model: There is a new special education model that will be implemented this fall. It will include support staff such as OT/PT changing how services are deliverd to students. There will be a short presentation, 10-15 minutes, after school on Thursday. This is on schedule to happen soon so we would like you to be sure to have a grade level rep at the meeting to get informed. This short presentation comes with an implementation timeline.
Book Fair: We have a teacher preview opportunity this Monday starting at 7:00 am put on by our Carson book fair coordinators. This will include coffee and an opporunity to identify some great buys that parents may want to purchase for classrooms or the library. Come visit for a few minutes.
