Thank you so much to everyone who was able to help with the winterfest. There was a shortage of volunteers and some no shows, which made for a much longer than anticipated volunteer time. The Carson teachers definitely made the difference!
Treats in Staff Room: The PTA Staff Appreciation Committee will be putting out some treats in the staff room on Wednesday morning. Be sure to stop by and enjoy! The committee is facilitated by Mrs. Kveziel.
Bethel Visitors: The superintendent and two principals from Bethel will be here on Wednesday between 9:30-10:30 am. They are interested in seeing the Carson technology in action. If you will be using your smart board during this time and are open to having us drop in for a few minutes please let Arturo or Miles know.
Band & Orchestra: FYI-The band and orchestra will be playing some of the songs that they have learned in the hallways/common areas on Friday.
Behavior Expectation Review: Miles and Arturo didn't make it to every classroom this fall regarding behavior expectations. The plan is that all classes receive a review of these expectations in January. With that in mind, please schedule a 45 minute block of time through Karen before you go on break this week (this will include a short video that will be put together over break). The two classrooms that share a project room should be considered one block of time so please coordinate with your colleagues.
A.R. Testing Over Break: Miles and Arturo will be opening up the computer lab for students who wish to come in and take an A.R. test (the library will not be open and books will not be checked out) on Thursday, December 27th, from 10:00 am - noon. Please include this information in your classroom newsletters and encourage students to take two AR books home to keep up on their reading.
Lost & Found Cleared: The Lost & Found will be cleared over winter break. Please encourage parents to take a look before the holidays begin. They will donated to a non profit organization-St. Francis House. Please also include in your newsletter if you get a chance.
I.D. Badges: Please consider attaching your I.D. badges to something more secure than the clips that you recieved from the district. They tend to unsnap easily and have been lost. Regardless of how these badges are lost, they are replaced at a cost of $15 to the employee and requires going down to the HR department (please call before you go to assure that Sue is available). If you lose or misplace your tag, please let the office know immediately so that we can deactivate your card until it is found or replaced.
Elevator Use: Our elevator has been a bit tempramental these last two weeks. A group of staff got stuck a week and a half ago as did a night custodian this last week. If you ride it until further notice, you run some risk of getting stuck (especially think twice on the weekends!). Regardless, there should be no students using the elevator unless they have mobility/ADA issues and a teacher is accompanying them. Students using the elevator for other reasons also require that a teacher accompany the students-no exceptions.
Contractor Work Over Holidays: There will be quite a bit of action that will be occuring over the holiday break. All the miscolored tiles in the cafeteria will be replaced and the facilities crew will be rewaxing the whole floor; this means that the commons will not be avialable for any use between December 26th and January 6th. In addition, Saxton Bradley, the furniture company, will be replacing and correcting a number of furniture items throughout the building. The work may overlap into weekend days. Knowing that there will be so many district, as well as non-district employees, in the building over winter break, please be sure that all electronic equipment and accessories are locked up and put away-no exceptions.
Food Over Winter Break: Please do not leave any food out over the break. The custodial staff will be cleaning the garbage cans on Friday evening, but anything put in after that will stay in the room until January 7th. We don't want to encourage a migration of unwanted visitors over the holidays (including rats). Thank you in advance.
