Choir Concert: Our assembly seating will be similar to the dedication format. We will be seated by grade levels starting with Kindergarten and preschool at the front. Sixth grade has the option of chairs as a privelege. The length of the assembly will be approximately 30 minutes. A reminder that a planning specialist or Miles/Arturo will supervise your class if this event conflicts with your planning time.
Winterfest: Please note that it does include some traditional Christmas type of activities. This is due to the fact that it is offered after school hours and sponsored by the PTA. There was also a sign up sheet that was circulated for school staff to volunteer if they so chose. If the sheet didn't make it to you, please see Karen.
Substitutes: If you have a favorite substitute that you haven't been seeing around our building but would like to, please email his or her name and pin # if you know it to Miles. I will get that info to Cathi Price before break so she can know some of our favorites to target for sub vacancies. Also, I will talk to Karen about emailing out a daily substitute list FYI and so you can prep kids to be on their best behavior. Remember the 3 R's!
Accelerated Reader: It's great to know that we are off and running with A.R. this second trimester. PTA provided us with another check this last week to bring us up to the $7,000 that they had committed to the A.R program. If you get a chance please thank the board. Amber has provided all of the classroom teachers an opportunity to take A.R. tests if you are interested it participating as another way to motivate students. Teacher names can be found under Amber's classroom class list. The advantage of keeping the teacher names away from your classroom list is that you don't have to back out your points when you are looking at classroom performance information.
Teaming & Collaboration: Teaming and Collaboration Form: A new and improved form will be in your boxes. Please realize that you don't have to complete the form if you are not interested in clock hours. We are using it to help us verify our the total clock hours at the end of the year with collaboration & teaming days.
Gym Use and Access: Please be sure to check in with Karen if you are anticipating using the gym during non-school days; sometimes there are conflicts with other groups who have rented the use of the space. Also, the gym will not be available during the school day on Jan. 21st due to the aesthetics part of the climbing wall being fixed.
Grandparents Day: Many of you may have noticed that Grandparents Day is on the district calendar for January 11. The buildings now have the option of modifying this event (as long as we have something). The P.A.C.K. Leadership team has determined that we will go with a different option due to our huge challenge with on-campus parking and the lack of available street parking. Here is the the option that we have taken:
1. We will not hold any type of Grandparent's event on January 11
2. Grandparents Day will occur by grade level
3. Each grade will eat in their classrooms on their designated 'Grandparents Day'
4. The dates by grade level are: Sixth/Jan. 14th, Fifth/Jan. 15, Fourth/Jan. 17, Third/Jan. 18, Second/Jan. 24, First/Jan. 25.
5. It is anticipated that the format will include: grandparents arriving at the grade level's lunch time, eating lunch in the classroom, possibly getting an opportunity to go out to recess or some type of short presentation or short tour by students, etc. We are anticipating giving them a great welcome and having them leave feeling like it was a worthwhile event, but we are not anticipating that we will have special programs for the remainder of the afternoon.
6. Some schools traditionally have not included kindergarten. This option will be up to Kinder and preschool as a grade level to decide whether or not they would like to participate, knowing that it will set future tradition
If you could please work the above information into your newsletter communications. Although the office will also include it, we realize that the classroom newsletter carries more weight with parents. If you could please be sure to send out a uniform message as a team.
Future Spelling Bee: PTA will be sponsoring a spelling bee for grades 4-6. The top two spellers from each classroom will compete in an assembly that will be held during the school day. Target date is May 22nd.
Grade Level Meetings: Miles and Arturo would like to visit at your next grade level meetings. If we could take 10 minutes to talk about Walk Throughs, A.R. and Lunchroom Procedures. Please let us know if you are modifying your set meeting dates for this next week.
Gracias...have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to a terrific week!
