Last Day for second trimester A.R.
Bingo Night/6:00-8:00 pm
Kindergarten had a great parent volunteer training night last week. It was also a great way to acknowledge just how mighty of an impact volunteers make in our classrooms.
K.P. this week:
Read Across America Assembly on Monday: Jeff Evans' "Read Across America Magic Show" is sponsored by our PTA. Please take some time to remind students about assembly manners and take care of bathroom breaks before arriving in the commons for the performance.
Carson Track: If the weather is cooperative, Miles and I will be painting a 'track' on the field with white spray paint in order to get our Coyote Tracks going this last trimester. The real track is slated to be installed this summer. We will announce Coyote Tracks during our Tuesday news. The track will be available for primary and intermediate only during lunch recess, not during PM recess for primary.
LIC Day: A reminder that we switched our next two Wednesdays. Next week will be a principal directed day.
A.R. Trimester Cut-Off: Please stick with our A.R. cut-off of Friday, March 7th. Extending time over the weekend or into the following week throws off the cut date, takes away from all having the same opportunity, and creates a bit of confusion.
Friday Spirit: We are really going to do it this week. Students will have an opporunity to come into the gym at approx. 8:10 am on Friday. We will be singing songs, getting a Carson cheer established, etc. Please come to the gym to pick up your students. You may be waiting a few minutes as we wrap up, but we anticipate finishing up with little impact to the school day. A playround supervisor will be outside for those students choosing not to participate. Mrs. LaBounty will be our constant with 'guest MC's' This week our guest MC's are Krystin, Lauri & Sonja. Way to go Kindergarten!
Fundraising: Please keep in mind that we will have a number of fundraisers going this spring. However, there are three distinct sponsors: Carson Staff supporting March Gladness (Change for Africa), PTA supporting school wide events and activities (Cookie Dough), and 6th Grade supporing 6th Grade Camp and Graduation Party (Multiple fundraisers). We're set for the remainder of the year. Although there are so many other wonderful causes, if other great ideas are coming your way, let's save them for next year since we are close to a saturation point with our fundraising community.
Bingo Night: Please encourage participation in your newsletters.
SchoolMessenger: The automated calls made by the district are taken from your listed directory information in the Human Resources Department. If you have corrections/changes, please get a new card from Karen in the office.
Coyote News Network: Thank you everyone for your patience as we transition our camera crews to student teams. This has resulted in some technical difficulties that have been worked through each time.
Student Learning Plans & Conferencing: Please be sure to consider, if it is not already part of the SLP, a conference with parents during the month of March. The expectation is that second semester conferencing is based on an as needed basis regardless of whether a student has an SLP. It can also be considered one of the interventions focusing upon school-to-parent communication.
Staff Get Together: Don't forget to add Bunco Night to your calendar at the Erdly's on Friday, March 14th, 6:30 pm. More info and sign up is in the staff room.

Working Hard requires Working Harder...at Relaxing
-comments from Miles
Opening up Carson has been one of the highlights of my career. A beautiful new school, a newly formed committed and dedicated staff, eager students and parents, amazing technology integration, new program development and implementation, creating a school culture, my first year formally in my new role as assistant principal...and the list goes on. Any one of these could provide one with enough of a fulfilling challenge for a year, yet here we are with all of them approaching simultaneously--along with our undying commitment to help each Carson student Succeed Every Day!
Maybe it's the recent passage of yet another birthday (yes, there is a Costco carrot cake to share in the lounge today!), or just the fact that each day is truly fulfilling to the point that it's hard to notice that winter is giving way to spring as the days warm up and the sun stays out longer. Whatever it is, what's important for me is that I look forward to hopping out of bed each day to head up to Carson. I love getting to work with goals and an agenda in mind, but also knowing there will be many curve balls thrown to make the best laid plans take a hard hit at restructuring and re-prioritizing. The beauty is, I find none of this unsettling! Why? Because I know I am in good company! Each of you bring a level of warmth, compassion, caring, commitment, and dedication that helps bond us together on these rather rough seas of our first year assail in the Silver Creek community. I am enjoying watching us rally together as we comfort those whose family members are undergoing various challenges, celebrate those who are bringing new life into the world, applaud those who are expanding themselves with continuing education and professional development, and remind each other that when we work hard, we need to play harder!
Some ideas:
- Create an event out of your next book study group meeting and go off site somewhere for a change of scenery!
- Make a point of coming down to the staff room at lunch more often to mix up with some of your other fabulous colleagues!
- Put your name on the sign-up sheet in the lounge for Bunco Night on March 14th!
- Meet up with some of your colleagues to go walking after school!
- Go out to recess and play with the kids...who says grown-ups don't need a chance to knock a ball around once in awhile!
- Come to Forza Fridays and hang out with yours truly, Arturo, and Karen!
- Volunteer to be our next guest hosts for an upcoming CNN broadcast!
- Help lead one of our Friday spirit assemblies and build up our Coyote Pride!
- Help us plan weekly staff luncheons on Wednesdays so everybody can break bread together!
- And talk to one of our illustrious Sunshine Committee members if you have other ideas to pump up that Coyote Pride amongst your colleagues!
Hey, it's not just for the kids. Let's work hard at playing harder so that Carson Coyote Staff Members...Succeed Every Day!!
