No School/Presidents Day Weekend
Collaboration and Teaming Form: An updated Coll & Team form has been sent out electronically to each grade level (person whose first name is closest to A). Joe Bales reported that the last one lacked a date section.
April 25th Golden Acorn: This a not only a great reminder to put this event on your calendar if you're interested in participating, but also to begin thinking about who to nominate for these awards. The two PTA sponsored awards that Carson PTA is taking nominations for include the Golden Acorn Award and the Outstanding Child Advocate Award.
Bingo Night/March 7th, 5:30-9:00 pm: The traditional call for Bingo Night prizes is just aroudn the corner for Carson (having each classroom support this event with a theme basket.) I am sure PTA has, if not already, been sending out some info. This gives you some time to brainstorm your class basket idea. You might consider asking a parent to take this on for your classroom. Mrs. Howe, a parent from Lindsay's classroom, is running the event.
Recycling Break Boxes Down: Please be sure to get boxes and other items broken down. Our recycling bins tend to create some messes around the area that they are placed. Once item are broken down, they tend to be between a third and half full. Also, the gray bins are mixed recycle for plastic and aluminum.
Report Card Window: Scores can be loaded onto the electronic system from February 13-March 13. Report cards go home on March 14.
Students in the hallways: Just a friendly reminder that students who are going to test for AR before school may enter the building starting at 8:15 AM. Students who are going to classrooms before school or during lunch time must either have a note with them or be escorted by a teacher. We are having a lot of cat and mouse type situations with students at all grade levels so your active support is greatly appreciated. This shouldn't interfere with students who are in common areas during their instructional time as they should also have a pass (i.e. a second grader in the hallway during the time that third and fourth graders are at recess). Bottom line, if kids are in the hall for any reason without the teacher, they need a pass (classroom passes are ok).
Writing Assessments: Grades third through sixth were put in the teachers' boxes on Friday. Please be sure to submit scores to Miles or Arturo when done scoring. We do not need the actual papers. We are checking in with Patti Nance for copies of the scoring rubric. See Miles when you are ready for your set.
CCTV: We have surprise guests for our Coyote News this Tuesday. I realize that once you see them perform you will be interested as well. If so, please let Miles or Arturo know. We can either have you pre-recorded or we can go live. This is a great way to get some grade level bonding happening.
Fire Drill: we had the fire drill on hold this last week due to the weather and testing on the system. We'll try again this week. We'll let you know when / if it's a go.
Coyote Chat: Thank you for identifying the Coyote Chats on your swift accounts. Please note that they do alternate between morning and evening times. Some teacher sites have inaccurate times. The one this week will be at 9:00 AM. Speaking of this week's Coyote Chat, we will be having a different format. As part of the PTA grant, we will also be including some tours this Tuesday. This means going into some classrooms so that they can see the technology and other great things that we have at Carson. Please do not stop your instruction, feel that you need to stop student learning, activities, etc. Just pretend we're not there. The people will be told ahead of time that we are invisible.
Information/Flyers Sent Home: At the last PTA meeting there was a short but very energized discussion regarding information not going home as agreed upon in the fall (the same day if it was put in teachers boxes, or the following day if it was put in teachers boxes after lunch recess). Only one of the parents at the meeting said that the flyers/info were going home the day that they are received. Parents commented on getting stuff only when the weekly folders went home, their children missing out even longer because their children are in Quest when weekly folders are sent home, seeing info in boxes days after it was put out, etc. Obviously, I told them that our teachers wouldn't be doing such things and that they must be delirious, light headed from walking up the hill, or confused with their previous school. Please don't make a liar out of me and get the stuff out as was outlined in the fall. If you have questions please see Miles or Arturo.

Staff Valentine Breakfast: Join us in the commons this Thursday at 7:30 am. A breakfast is being put on by the guys for all the ladies. It's got the real stuff: eggs, sausage, orange juice, great black coffee to keep you going all day, etc.
Carson Kudos: Please be sure to include the last names on the students receiving the Carson Kudos. I am keeping a tally of all of these and if they don't have the last names included I have no idea who it belongs to!
