Change for Africa Fundraiser: Our March Gladness event begins on Monday. The money raised will go towards the building of a well at the same site that the school in Africa built last year. The school houses orphaned children. Instead of going with the traditional change collection, we will have a 'wishing well' on display in the foyer starting on Monday. Students will actually toss in their change. There will be water in it so that they can hear the official 'plop'. Please take a moment to review with your students the cause we are fundraising for, expectations that once coins are in the well they cannot/will not be retreived (no changing minds), and what a great cause it is going toward. Pictures will be available next week if you would like to share with your classroom.
Can you use some Drama?: A student from Mrs. Holway's class has been tenacious in asking me if we can get a Drama Club going here at Carson. Is there is an intersted staff member who would be interested in this stipend position. This is an excerpt from his proposal: ...because some kids have great voice, talent and expression...Kids just want to express themselves but they can't during school hours so I am asking you teachers for any volunteers!
Kindergarten Registration: If you do get questions about Kindergarten registration, please refer them the office. Registration dates and times become the most important topics in the office whenever classrooms are added/deleted in September. We want to be consistent with our information.
Olweus Topic of the Week: Language at school--What type of language is acceptable at school? Is it any different outside the classroom? in the lunchroom? playground? bathrooms? What should you do if you hear others using inappropriate language or calling people names?
Things My Mother Taught Me
My mother taught me about LOGIC:"If you fall off that swing and break your neck, you won't be able to go to the store with me."
My mother taught me about MEDICINE:"If you don't stop crossing your eyes, your face is going to stay that way."
My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION:"Wait until your father gets home!"
My mother taught me about GENETICS: "You're just like your father!"
My mother taught me about HUMOR:"When the lawn mower cuts your toes off, don't you come running to me."
My mother taught me about my ROOTS:"Do you think you were born in a barn?"
My mother taught me about the wisdom of AGE:"When you get to be my age, you'll understand."
My mother taught me about JUSTICE:"One day you'll have children and I hope they turn out just like you ... then you'll see what it's like!"
