Campus Cleanup Day!

Wiis and Weenie Roast: Well, a little surprise power outage a few minutes after 4:00pm on Friday has led to postponing our Wii Tournament. Stay tuned for more info as to when we plan on rescheduling our Special Olympics Fundraiser event. Thanks to all of you who stayed around and helped set up including keeping the camping BBQ in action! Good thing we had the generator for music and good old fashioned campfires for cooking up the hot dogs! Way to go keeping the spirits up and the appetites satisfied!
Campus Clean Up Day: Please help us as a school to have a successful turn out for our clean up this Saturday. Although we can make home calls announcing the event and include it on CNN, there is no substitute for the power of the classroom teacher. If you could include a blurp on your SWIFT site/newsletter and talk it up with the kids.
Classroom Student Assignments: Please be sure to have next years classroom placement lists to Karen by Wednesday. The process includes running them through special programs as well to help assure that we have not only a good distribution, but at times the best combinations (this can get very tricky with pulling students for additional services). If you have questions, don't hesitate to see Miles or Arturo.
Staff Appointments: Just a reminder that Arturo and Miles want to support staff with occasional appointments or family events that might conflict with your work hours, but please make sure to let us know what you are thinking. So far this year we can proudly say we have been able to accommodate for well over 90% of the occasions where staff have communicated with us, but the concern is that many are no longer keeping us in the loop. Remember, we wish to be there for you, but at the same time, with over 70 staff members on site each day, communication is very important. If you plan on leaving the building for personal reasons during regular work hours where you have not arranged for a substitute, the expectation is that you will communicate this with Arturo or Miles only. If either or both of us are out of the building, Karen or Marla can put you in touch with us to help work through the situation. Thanks for helping us ensure for supervision and quality instruction at Carson! If you have any questions about this expectation, please don't hesitate to stop by and share your thoughts.
Olweus Topic: Now is the time to spend your last few weeks together celebrating accomplishments and reviewing goals with your students. Use your last few meetings together to review the best parts of this year and celebrate successes! Carson Coyotes have been able to Succeed Every Day because of the outstanding dedication and commitment you have all brought in to making learning count for every child!
Report Cards: Now that TAC is finally open, we know that you are eagerly working to get that data into the system! Thanks for your insights and reflections discussed at our last staff meeting for making those comments parent friendly and informative. Once you are done inputting the data, let Karen know so she can print a set for your evaluator's review. Report cards will go home the last day of school with the students. Remember, no report cards are to be given out early, even if a student's last day falls before June 19th.
Extra Treats: A parent came into my office not too long ago and made what I thought was an obvious, yet overlooked, comment regarding junk food. I thought it worth adding to the blog. Here are the main points I got from the conversation: It's expected that students will be eating junk food on different occasions at school. However, taking into consideration that more students are identified as not being as active or healthy as they could be and some even have food issues, we should make an effort to at least support moderation; for example, stop at that first cupcake and cup of juice rather than distributing seconds or thirds because a parent brought 'extra' or doesn't want to take them home. Some students do have food issues and if given the option they will continue to go back for more until there's nothing left. The parent also shared seeing another parent distributing extra muffins to students at the end of the school day so that she did not have to take them home. Although meaning well, this parent does not know if children may have food allergies, etc. We're not saying to eliminate the cupcake or to put Costco out of business, but keeping the amount of goodies to what an elementary age child should eat as a treat would be greatly appreciated by those parents trying to focus on healthy eating habits.
Job History: Enjoy the job history below! Hopefully we can set our students up for more success than this person's experiences!

My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned...couldn't concentrate.

Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.
After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it...mainly because it was a so-so job.

Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too exhausting.

Then I tried to be a chef -- figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.

I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.

My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.

I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any patience.

Next was a job in a shoe factory - I tried but I just didn't fit in.

I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.

I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work was just too draining.

I got a job at a zoo feeding giraffes, but I was fired because I wasn't up to it.

So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.

After many years of trying to find steady work, I finally got a job as a historian until I realized there was no future in it.

My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

So, then I retired...and found out I was perfect for the job!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!
