Walking School Bus In Action!
CELEBRATIONS:
- Great job planning for conferences and getting the SLPs underway. Many of you have already begun conferencing! This Wednesday (21st) and next Wednesday (28th) are both conferencing afternoons. The 28th is also our school-wide night conference evening. PTA will be providing a Soup’s On dinner for us that day. Thank you PTA!
- I enjoyed listening in on the vertical teaming on Wednesday. Lots of terrific ideas and valuable conversation about how to best support the math needs of our students and better prepare them for what is ahead! Don’t forget to invite Sandi to your team meeting to drop off and explain our new math assessments for drilling down and progress monitoring. Watch out Carson kids, because our teachers are ready to rock your socks off with math this year!
- Thanks to all of you who have already submitted your Excel charts with writing scores and reading comprehension scores. If you need help getting in into the Excel chart, let me know so we can compile the data for your grade level and for vertical team planning. Great work on scoring!
- Survey says...Thank you to the 30 individuals who responded to my leadership feedback survey. I greatly appreciate the comments and suggestions to help guide me in doing the best work I can to support all of you as we work to make Carson the best! I encourage you to review the results by clicking here! There are two pages of survey questions so be sure to scroll down to view the results from both pages. Also, when you see the open-ended questions, be sure to click on show replies and then the 10 responses button and drop down to the highest number so you can view all of the responses. If you are interested, I would love to chat with some of you informally about the results. I appreciate all of the feedback you have so graciously provided!

- Olweus Topics--Don't forget to keep those classroom meetings going! It's wonderful to refer to those when doing student discipline interventions. They mean a lot to the kids and are essential for helping us become bully and harassment free at Carson! Here are a couple of topic ideas: Do kids ever call you mean names or tease you? Talk more about how you feel and what you do when this happens. What locations around school do you see kids bullying one another? How can you help the person being bullied? Who should you ask for help?
- CPS Reports--Just a reminder that if you notice anything about a student that you think might warrant a CPS call, be sure to check in with a building administrator THE SAME DAY as your concern so we can write up the report and make the call. If neither of us are in the building, check with Karen and she can reach us via phone so we can get this taken care of right away. It is very important that we follow through with this process in support of safety for our students.
- Team meeting minutes--I have emailed many of you with a link so you can view the team meeting minutes that you send in once you click the submit button on the web page. Again, the meeting minutes need to be only as specific as you need them to be and are also invaluable to provide feedback as to how we can better support the needs of each grade level. Click here to view the results at any time. It is also now on the left hand side of the blog as well under WEB LINKS.

- Did you say Book Study? Why, yes I did! I would like to put a small group together to read The Fourth Way by Dr. Andrew Hargreaves. Click here to read an abbreviated version in his recent ASCD article for Ed Leadership. Fascinating stuff and it truly has some revelational recommendations! So far I have Miles, Arturo, Sandi, Stephanie, Danielle, and Kim. Any other takers? Let me know right away so I can order the books. I can take 6 more in the group! Clock hours will also be offered for the group study!
- Kids in the Workroom--Now that we have been underway awhile, it appears our volunteers are becoming casual about letting their little ones hang out with them in the workroom once again. Unfortunately, the workroom has many hazards such as cutting boards and heavy equipment. Also, the kids are often standing on stools or chairs not to mention pushing buttons on copy machines, etc. Bottom line, please remind your volunteers that no young ones are allowed in the workroom. I will begin asking them to not bring their kids in the workroom starting Monday, and after Wednesday, we will be requiring all kids to be out of the workroom. I appreciate your support in preserving the workroom as a place for staff and volunteers to support our classroom needs without the concern of little ones getting harmed. Let's work together to keep Carson safe!
