Dr. Apostle and School Board President Diana Seeley stopped in for a visit last Thursday. Mrs. McGuire's class was relieved that it wasn't PJ day this time!

Aneyceia in Mrs. Armstrong's class was recognized for her kind acknowledgement of Diana Seeley recently. Diana was out with a bad cold during the recognition so she and Dr. Apostle made a personal visit to meet and greet her with some beautiful flowers and a PSD portfolio book.
CELEBRATIONS:
- Thank you all for your flexibility for photo day last Thursday! The process appeared to go very smoothly and Mrs. Massey was able to keep the gym for P.E. that day! Please pass on our thanks to your students as well! I know the cooks were very happy that day!
- Once again, we just want to recognize how proud we are of our three National Board Certificate winners! Sandy, David, and Stephanie all successfully completed their certification last year and we have a special commemoration coming in their honor. WIll you be the next one? See Arturo or Miles if you are interested!

School Board Meeting: The meeting will open with acknowledgements for this year's National Board Certification Teacher recipients and counselors. For those who can attend, it would be great to show our support.
Olweus Topic of the Week: Valentines Day can be a great opportunity to talk with students about what makes a good and caring friend (with a focus on looking beyond gender at intermediate grades). It would be wonderful to emphasize that Valentines Day is also an opportunity to value friendships and being surrounded by caring individuals.
Valentines Day: Speaking of this event, please remember to keep the following in mind: please limit the time to a half hour if not done during your lunch time; students bringing cards bring them for everyone in the class; students are not permitted to do sweetheart/girlfriend-boyfriend type gifts, they basically bring the same type of gift for everyone. Please cover this information with your class at the start of the week before the event so that we avoid upset students as well as upset parents. If parents do inquire about wanting their child to bring something for a specific student my response is that they can coordinate that outside of the school day (yes, we really do get these type of inquiries every year).
Scholastic Census Materials: Teachers may have received census materials that have been approved by the district for use. These are not "mandated" teaching materials; teachers may choose to use them if the materials fit into their lesson plans.
Stahl Band/Orchestra/Choir: This assembly is designated for intermediate grades 5-6.
Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration: Here is some content for those individuals desiring more info on the criteria as you select from the REACH Read Alouds. Think of the Four C's: Culture, Concept, Creativity, Craftsmanship
Culture: A cultural connection is evident; evidence of one or more of the Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration goals
Concept: Met expectations of assignment, thought process, a major idea was communicated, the heart of the artwork
Creativity: Originality, expressive artistic perceptions, unique
Craftsmanship: neatness and construction, composition, visual appeal
Enjoy this week, and enjoy even more the mid-winter break with friends and family.
