Thanksgiving Break, No School

Dear Carson Staff,
We can’t believe that this is mid-November and year 2011 is quickly coming to a close. This time of the year is always busy for all of us, both at school and in other areas of our lives. Thank you for making student achievement a priority at Carson. Thank you for pulling together and supporting one another in meeting the academic and basic needs of our students and families. As the 2011 year quickly comes to a close, remember to take care of yourselves and pace yourselves as you continue your work in delivering excellent instruction to our students. Thank you for being so dedicated in your efforts to motivate, coach and inspire students to reach their highest behavioral and academic achievement. Thank you, Carson Coyote staff.

Kudos To Denita for planning a Thanksgiving celebration for our staff……..Thank you, staff for the food, laughter conversations and fun……… To Jennifer and Barb for planning another successful ELL Family Day and LAP Program open house……We not only had a great turn out, our families learned more about the services that were available to them, how they could better support the academic progress of their child and how to get involved in the life of the school activities at Carson...... To Jill for preparing our 5th graders for another great performance honoring our Veterans…..To Heather, Kristen and Michelle for coming out to help during the evening performance…… To Amber and Lindsay for writing a grant to received resources for the library…… Carson was awarded $1000. It will be used to purchase books and AR tests….. To Janet for writing a grant to support our Diversity Day activities coming up later this school year…….To Dolora for your work on student health screening this week….. To all of you for your perseverance and stamina…. For your focused and positive work with our students……Your important work makes a difference in the lives of our students and families……Thank you for helping….. Carson Coyotes Succeed Everyday!

Professional Development at Carson: What should professional development look like at Carson this year? We want staff in their grade-level team meetings to have a discussion about what their needs are as well as what training and support they will need this year. Your PACK representatives will make a decision, based on the input they receive from you at the next PACK Leadership meeting on Monday, December 5th.

Lunchroom: Eve Vodden-Thornton, our elementary food service coordinator, stopped by to inform us on what we could do to help our students get through the lunch lines a little faster. There are two things that we can do. 1) Students need to be in alphabetic order when they go through the lunch line-apparently this is not a consistent practice. Please be sure to include this info in your sub notes. 2) Students should have their money out and ready. Students can come to the office to pay for their lunches. The office staff is prepared for them. However, students will need to have their lunch money in an envelop with their name on it before passing it on to the office. If you need envelopes please let Karen know.

Lost & Found: Our Lost and Found clothes rack/bin is filled with unclaimed coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and hats. Please encourage your students to stop by the Lost & Found rack to retrieve their belongings. Items that are not picked up by December 16th will be donated to a local charity.

No Way!!... WAY!! Don't You Wish that you could just bring your own sweet, super slick, modern electronic device and hook up to our school's internet. Well , now you can. On the Friday reminder that the blog was updated you received an email attachment with the instructions for connecting personal devices to the internet using the district wireless network. Access to the internet is being enabled for all Carson staff effective Monday, November 21 (we're the first in the district). ITC will be gathering usage data so we can better anticipate future capacity and potential issues. ITC would also like to hear success stories (e.g., “I used my tablet computer to teach a student/students in a new way…”)-email these stories to Randy Averill, our District Technology Director. A few things to highlight:

1) this is not a requirment for staff participation. The big picture is really to give more access to those technology users who want to take advantage of it. I myself am now using my personal iPAD at work and love it!

2) this month ITC opened up this opportunity for administrators and it has gone smoothly, they're now ready to see what needs to be done to support a larger group of users (our teaching staff), and

3) Please read the attached form that is being emailed out since it covers essential and important information (such as the fact that ITC should not be receiving calls for troubleshooting or connecting personal devices).
