Great Staff...
** Thank you to Mrs. Carlson and PTA for bringing us such a great election this year!
Attendance and Tardies:Please keep in mind that we mark students as tardy after the tardy bell rings-8:30 am, rather than when the students enter the classroom. You may have some students joining your line as they are being walked into the building or they may show up after your class is already in the room. These students are not considered absent if they are arriving in your room and the tardy bell did not ring. On the other shoe, please be sure to refer students back to the office if they are tardy. Especially with siblings, it can be difficult to try to figure out during an attendance conference why only one of the siblings is marked tardy and the other isn't. The whole office staff appreciates your help with this.
Student Arrival Time: We have a very happening place here at Carson. Some students are legitimately arriving before the office time due to extra curricular involvement at school. Students in the building for CNN and AR require a pass to be in the building. Those students going to classrooms for AR must have a prearrangement and must also have a pass to enter the building. Due to so many students wandering the halls, we will work on having patrol students monitoring the hallways before school sometime this coming week. Below are the times that make sense for students to arrive:
A.R. Testing in Library: 8:15 AM
CNN News Team: 8:15 AM
Patrol: 7:55 AM
Howling Coyotes: 7:45 AM
Weather: Please continue to include in your newsletters for students to bring waterproof attire even if they are choosing not to wear it. Talking of attire, please take opportunities as they work out (coming in from recess, after specialist, etc.) to have students look at the lost & found to take items home with them. It is starting to fill up again!
Fire Drill:Our apologies for the deluge. It was sunny and dry 5 minutes before the fire drill. Overall great job! Details for improvement: we should have all our doors closed, students should be quiet all the way through the drill until they return to class (understandable they were not as quiet as last drill considering the water factor), and we are always trying to trim our time down. We cut half a minute this time, but we are still beyond the 5 minute goal.
PACK leadership Information: We have not yet identified staff development funds for this year as a building. Please keep in mind that
Skate Night at Tiffany's: PTA would love to remind teachers that they get free admission and skates. In other words...we'd love to have you join us for a bit if you can! The flyer that went out did not mention that it is also spirit wear at the skate night so if you get a chance a mention on your newsletter or SWIFT site would be greatly appreciated!
Our school will be participating in
MIX IT UP AT LUNCH,
on Thursday, Nov 13th!
First through 6th Grade
What is it?
Mix it up is a nationwide campaign that supports students who want to identify, question, and cross social boundaries that separate them from each other and help build inclusive, welcoming learning environments.
Why Mix it up?
Mix it up helps students appreciate and respect diversity. Through fun games and activities young students can learn how to think positively about themselves, build healthy friendships within a diverse peer group, and display empathy for those often judges too soon.
Facts:
* by 3rd or 4th grade, students know what it means to be popular and un popular
*In elementary school, children begin to realize that, by forming groups of friends, they can exert influence over others.
So, please talk to your students about this! All students on Nov 13th will sit with another student they do not know.
They will be given a number to match the tables in the lunch room. (CLASSES THAT EAT IN THEIR CLASSROOM: you are encouraged to mix up in your rooms too!)
On each table there will be several social pictures (photos displaying a social event or scene) and conversation starters. Encourage them strongly to not sit by their friends, but to step outside their comfort zone and MEET A NEW FRIEND.
Thank you for your support :)
