Week of November 9-13, 2009
Thanks and Celebrations...
Amber sent out an email about downloading over 200 new quizzes. Thank you to the Walmart grant and our wonderful PTA for contributing to our kids and our teachers!
A huge thank you to our veteran's. One day is not enough to truly acknowledge their contribution to our community, society and country.

SOME DETAILS!
Earned Popcorn or Recess -- If your class has earned a free popcorn party, please note that our next popcorn popping for this incentive is Tuesday, Nov. 17th. Mrs. Trish Hood is the parent contact, but there will be a sign up posted in the staff room so that she knows ahead of time how much popcorn to pop. Please help her out by signing up ASAP.

Olweus Topic--Do kids ever call you mean names or tease you? Talk more about how you feel and what you do when this happens.
U-Crew--The PSD Utility Crew will be here in the evenings througout the week. They will be completing work orders that are already in the system as well as trying to fit in any other requests. If there is something that you may need repaired, etc. please don't visit with them directly, they can only do the work that is on their to do list. Let Miles or Arturo know if you have something we need to add.

Food Drive Extended - The food banks in our area have a growing need of food donations. We will be extending our food drive into this week-we're about half way to where we are hoping to be in terms of amount collected. Please consider taking a couple of minutes to talk about this with your students as well as posting some info on your SWIFT sites or newsletters. We also have our own Carson increase in families who may access this service, so reinforce that students get permission from their parents before they bring food items in.
Stipend Events on website Parent Calendar - Please note that the student activities that are stipend events will be posted on our school website for parents to see. The hope is that it will help parents with their planning as well as encouraging participation for their child. I have verified with the lead staff members those events that are occuring in November. Otherwise, you may want to add the events you have committed onto your tickler file so that we stick to the schedule and students can plan on counting the event as part of their Super Achiever Program if applicable.
Veterans Day: We recognize that some classrooms may be doing Veteran's Day events after we get back on Thursday. However, please take some time before your class comes to the assembly to review the importance of why we recognize our veterans as well as reminding students about assembly behaviors and expectations. Our veterans deserve a great assembly and I am certain that we will give them the best!
Return of the Principal: Miles is going to be gone on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Fear not, we will have Erling back with us for these two days. If you had an appointment with Miles on either Monday or Tuesday and have not been rescheduled by Karen, please check in with her right away.
