Olweus Topic: This is a great time to explain March Gladness to your students. What kind of goal does your class want to set? How do you want to monitor and encourage Pennies For Patients participation? See the last item below for more info on the Pennies For Patients drive.
From the Office: Karen sent out a reminder to let the office know if you have grade level or classroom activities going on. We have really been getting quite a number of phone calls with questions about things that we know nothing about. Knowing what you're up to helps the office staff and principals sound like we have a clue about what's going on in our school!
Teacher Book Preview: Please drop by the book fair Monday morning for muffins, coffee, diet coke & some fruit...and some book selections. Teachers can come and grab books they are interested in & put in their basket. Also, the first 15 teachers get a free Book for their classroom Library. See you monday!
March Gladness Project: First grade is working on a March Gladness project of collecting toothbrushes (wrapped and unused of course) for children in Iraq. If you have any that you would like to donate, please send them to any first grade class
Pennies for Patients Fundraiser: See info below from Sarah Simon-
PENNIES FOR PATIENTS
Our school goal is $5,000.
First, classroom teachers should all have a bucket in their rooms to collect change, dollars, and checks (made out to LLS). Also, each student will get a coin collector to take home and bring back. We decided as a team that it would be best if the classrooms would count their money and have it ready by 2pm for pick up. We know that this can be a lot of work but we value everyone's participation. We must collect and lock up the money daily so we appreciate your support in this effort.
Second, if a student or parent makes a donation of $1 or MORE they can write their name on a "PAPER PENNY." The paper pennies are found by the teacher mail boxes. Please only take what you need. If we run out, please send me an email and I will get more. Teachers and/or students are invited to hang their paper pennies in the hallway near the office or bring them to the office and we will hang them for you.
Finally, we would like to reward the top five classes, who meet or exceed their goal, with a time on the bouncy house. In addition, the class that raises the most money will be awarded a free lunch from Olive Garden.
The goal for each classroom is based on the number of students in each class is:
pre-k $75
K $120
1 $120
2 $120
3 $130
4 $150
5 $160
6 $160
NOTE: last year we raised a little over $4,300 and we are confident that our 880+ students can gather change for our goal of $5,000.Attachments with more info were included in the original email from Sarah.
