Week of April 19-23, 2010

Saturday's Carson Clean-Up was a great event thanks to
the many families and staff members that came to donate
their time on Saturday morning and for the great treats
donated by many of you as well!
Now let's see those April showers bring May flowers!

What a fun event BINGO night was on Friday!
The great staff turnout meant a great deal to our kids
and it was awesome to have so many participate as
BINGO callers as well, right Sarah, Erynn, Jill, Mr. Todd, Andrea, Kristen and Nikki?

Olweus Topic of the Week: I have spoken with a few staff members this week that have referenced that many times when kids report, it may be anonymous or they leave out the names of those harassing, intimidating, or bullying them. Please talk to your class about what reporting means. What information is necessary if we are to support the student so that the bad behaviors towards themselves or others can stop? Is it something to report if it happens on the way to or from school? (yes)  Also, if students say or do things to someone outside of school, can it become something that needs to be reported? (yes, if students are talking about it at school and it creates a disruption to the educational process or inhibits a child's ability to focus on their learning at school).

Yearbooks: We are sending out envelope order forms for yearbooks today (in your mailboxes). We've included one additional order form should you choose to order a yearbook as well. Sales will continue throughout the rest of the year, or until we reach our total quantity ordered. Price will remain at $16 the entire time as well. Additional envelopes will be available in the office.
Books will be distributed the LAST week of school. Questions, please see Mr. Todd.

Pennies for Patients Coin Drive: Our actual final amount was $5300.10
The top classes were: 1) HILL, 2) CARLSON, 3) TRAN, 4) GENDREAU, and 5) HOWE AM

Pick-Up Lanes: I have been asked to share that parents would appreciate that if a staff member needs to have a conversation with a parent who is picking up their child in the pick up/drop off lane, that you please ask the parent to park and walk over for a moment instead of conferencing with them in the line. MANY parents are getting frustrated waiting while the conversations take place and unfortunately it is giving a well intentioned gesture of communication a bad rap of poor PR from our parent constituents. Thanks for understanding as we help our parents keep the pick up zone moving while meeting our needs of communicating to support kids a reality. --Miles

QUEST: The next testing period for QUEST will be in May. Parents should submit a completed application by May 15th. Testing will take place the last 2 weeks in May (probably May 20th and May 24th - We need to work around the MSP dates).
