New Year Greetings

It was great to see everyone back at school looking refreshed on Monday. If you were like me, there was no traffic on the road and getting to school took less time. Congratulations on completing your first full week back to school in 2012.

This is the time of year when we want you to revisit talking to your students about school and classroom rules and expectations. Students should walk down on the right side of the halls and stairs. Talk to your students about being respectful to staff, parents and their peers. Students need to report right away about any problem. We want to have a safe environment for students to thrive personally, socially and in academics. Thank you for your dedication and work with our students. Let’s have a happy and productive New Year everyone!

Bridges Question Board: A question board will be set up in the workroom by the desk top computers starting next week. There will be post-it notes available for staff to write math related questions on. Michelle and Melissa will check this on a regular basis and will try to answer the questions. If they are not able to answer questions, they will either take it to the next cadre meeting or try and research an answer. The Bridges Math question board will be organized for primary and intermediate.
Bridges Training at Carson: Bridges training is scheduled to take place at Carson on our PR day Wednesday, February 1, 2012. We would like you to have a discussion in your grade-level team meeting about questions that Janis Hiegl could respond to. We are expecting to have each PACK representative to email Andrea and Arturo those questions by Wednesday, January 11th. They will be forwarded to Janis. This will give her ample time to prepare for our workshop time together. Additional topics will also be addressed.
-Big Content ideas in K-6 and how to develop them
-Terminology/ Vocabulary
-How does curriculum tie into and support MSP preparedness
-Expectation on sticking with the pacing schedule (What do you do when you get behind?)

-Respond to any questions that teachers submit prior to the workshop
Drills Week:Drills week is this coming week-see schedule above. Please be sure to review the procedures with students so that all are aware of expectations. It is also recommended that you advertise these drills in your newsletters so that parents have more opportunities to be aware of these drills.

Diversity Committee: Please note that the committee now meets on Thursday mornings at 7:30 am. As always, everyone is welcome.
All School Picture: It's been five years and we are taking another all school picture. Weather permitting, it will be Tuesday morning after attendance and lunch count. We will have the earthquake drill after we return from having the picture taken. The picture will be part of this year's school yearbook.
Native American Pro. Dev. Opportunities: An email was sent out to staff on Friday, Jan. 6th with more detailed information about the Since Time Immemorial training that was mentioned at our last LIC meeting. The training includes substitutes but space is limited.
In addition - Chief Leschi Powwows are scheduled for Jan 21 and Mar 17. Lynda Belt will also set up clock hour PD for attending one or more of those with a reflection piece to submit in order to get the clock hours. Powwows are free and start at 7 pm with dancing, singing and performances going well into the evening. Stay as long as you like. The public is more than welcome at these powwows. Free Admission - Free Parking

Supplemental Day #6: An email was sent out to staff on Friday, Jan. 6th regarding the logistics of our supplemental day happening on Jan. 27th. Questions, please see Arturo or Andrea.
